Following the success of last year, we are proud to announce that we will be hosting another Romans and Britons event in 2010.  However, we plan to extend this into a three day event and to make the Friday a "schools" day.  Since many children will be, or will have, studying this topic, we have arranged with the company to lay on a day aimed at children so that they can come along and really inside the camp.  We will be contacting local schools to see how many would like to attend.

'A Vicus' is a settlement that grows outside of Roman military bases to cater to the needs of the soldiers (and their money). Likely to have originally been of a temporary nature, these settlements quickly grow into communities and later into permanent towns

'The Vicus' is a Re-enactment Society that concentrates on both Roman and British life during the first two generations after the Roman invasion of Britain.  For our event at Mapledurham, the Vicus will present a static living history with a number of period crafts, from cooking to mosaics, as well different arena displays throughout both days.  This is a unique opportunity to see the differences between Iron Age and Roman cultures and would form an invaluable educational experience as part of Key Stage 2 : invaders and settlers for 7-11 year olds.
